Protect yourself from payment fraud
Your security is our priority.
We encourage you to stay vigilant against payment-related fraud and criminal activity. Fraudsters are constantly developing new methods to deceive customers and gain unauthorized access to accounts.
Please note: Contomobile or other financial institution representatives will never ask for your mobile app or online portal login details, personal identification number, passwords, or authentication codes.
Common fraud techniques
Scammers may:
- Pretend to represent a financial institution, law enforcement, tax authorities, or other trusted organisations.
- Claim there is an urgent issue and pressure you to act immediately.
- Speak convincingly and confidently, creating alarming or emotionally stressful situations.
- Ask you to send money, confirm a payment, or “reverse” a transaction.
- Request your login details, personal code, or other sensitive information.
- Send fake but realistic-looking emails, text messages, or phone calls.
- Claim that you have won a lottery, are eligible for a tax refund, or will receive other financial benefits.
How to reduce the risk of fraud
We recommend that you:
- Never share your mobile app or online portal login details, personal code, or other confidential information.
- Take your time and do not rush payments, especially if someone claims urgency.
- Hang up if you receive a suspicious call. It is better to be rude than to fall victim to fraud.
- Do not click links or open attachments received via email or SMS unless you are confident they are legitimate. Pay attention to grammar, message content, and sender details.
- Enable Contomobile notifications on your mobile device and regularly review your account statements for any unrecognized transactions.
- Carefully review payment details before sending money or approving a transaction, particularly if it is unexpected or urgent.
- Check recipient details before confirming any payment. To help prevent mistakes and fraud, Contomobile has implemented a Verification of Payee feature that checks whether the recipient’s name matches the name linked to their bank account. If the details do not match, you will receive a warning before the payment is sent, allowing you to stop and verify the information.
